U.S. men's national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has openly embraced American culture during the team's successful run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even developing a notable appreciation for Chick-fil-A.
The USMNT has secured a spot in the Round of 32 following a victory over Australia, positioning them as a surprise contender in the tournament. Pochettino, an Argentine national, has been credited with fostering a strong connection with the team's young players and generating fan interest in the United States.
Following the 2-0 win against Australia, which notably occurred without star player Christian Pulisic, Pochettino expressed his emotional connection to the team's performance and the American fanbase. "Today, even if I am not American, after the game I was emotional," Pochettino told reporters. "The fans were amazing. The warm reception in the way that they support us, in the way they celebrated the victory, they make it very emotional. The players were very emotional, too. I think it was an amazing and perfect connection between the energy from stands and the team."
Pochettino's immersion into American life extends beyond the soccer pitch. He has specifically lauded the American fast-food chain Chick-fil-A. "People say Americans have no healthy food. Yes, you have healthy food, but also you have the food…Chick-fil-A. It’s amazing, no?" Pochettino remarked. His embrace of American culture also includes listening to country music before practice as the team competes in the World Cup.
