One of college football's most storied rivalries is set to resume, as USC and Notre Dame have agreed to a new four-year series. The Trojans announced Monday that the first game of the renewed series will take place in Week 1 of the 2030 season at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The following season, in 2031, the Fighting Irish will host USC at Notre Dame Stadium, also in Week 1. Details for the matchups in 2032 and 2033 are still to be announced, but each game is expected to occur within the first three weeks of their respective seasons.
This agreement marks the return of a rivalry that has been a consistent fixture since 2020, barring the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Prior to that, the teams had met every year since a three-year hiatus during World War II, from 1943 to 1945.
Previous negotiations between the universities had encountered obstacles, including disagreements over the timing of the games and an agreement Notre Dame had secured with the College Football Playoff that guaranteed the team a playoff spot if ranked within the top 12. The exact nature of these resolved issues was not detailed in the announcement.
