Tyler Herro, now a guard for the Milwaukee Bucks, stated that both he and the Miami Heat organization are "super happy" with their respective situations, speaking shortly before news broke of a physical altercation between him and former Heat teammate Bam Adebayo. Herro made these remarks during the Bucks-Heat NBA Summer League game, where he was seen interacting with several members of the Heat organization.
"It's all love in Miami," Herro said during the Prime Video broadcast. "I've seen a couple of the guys, coaching staff, Chris Quinn, [Erik Spoelstra], the front office guys; we are all good in Miami. Just an opportunity for both sides to reset, get a fresh start, and both are super happy with this."
The altercation, which reportedly involved Herro being punched in the face by Adebayo, began at a gym inside the Resorts World Casino. According to The Athletic, Herro made a comment to Adebayo in front of an AAU team run by Herro. Adebayo then approached Herro and punched him. Herro was escorted from the scene by security personnel, while Adebayo left on his own accord.
The Miami Heat issued a statement to ESPN stating, "We are aware and not commenting." The Milwaukee Bucks declined to comment.
Herro and Adebayo played together on the Heat for seven seasons, with no prior public reports of animosity between them. However, following the trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami and Herro to the Bucks, Herro posted a graphic on his Instagram Story highlighting players with the worst midrange field goal percentages. The graphic listed Antetokounmpo at 26.8% and Adebayo at 10th with 35.9%.
Further reports from The Athletic indicated that leaked direct messages allegedly showed Herro speaking negatively about Adebayo's defense, though Herro did not directly name Adebayo in those messages.
