Two Division-III college football players, A'Jean Augustine, 20, and Deyreck Dean, 23, died early Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 46 in Seguin, Texas, according to the Seguin Police Department.

Police reported that the SUV carrying Augustine and Dean was traveling south on Highway 46 at a "high rate of speed" when the driver lost control. The vehicle then crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a guardrail around 2:38 a.m. local time. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

Augustine and Dean were student athletes at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. The university confirmed their deaths, stating that both were "beloved members of our community." Augustine was a junior place kicker studying kinesiology, and Dean was a senior linebacker majoring in business management who was scheduled to graduate next month.

It remains unclear which of the two players was driving at the time of the incident. The crash led to the closure of the highway in both directions for several hours as authorities worked to clear the scene.

It wasn't clear if Augustine or Deyreck Dean (above) was driving when they struck a guardrail
