England manager Thomas Tuchel engaged in a heated exchange with ITV reporter Gabriel Clarke following the team's World Cup quarterfinal victory against Norway, a match that secured their place in the semifinals.

Despite the win, Tuchel conveyed his dissatisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "The result is amazing. But not happy with the performance. Again the commitment is there, but we made life very difficult for us in the way we played, how we played, sloppy, not repetitive enough. We were lucky today."

He specifically pushed back against the suggestion that the team's performance issues stemmed from mentality, asserting, "There’s no mentality problem, this is pure mentality, you could bottle it up and sell it, it’s a quality of our games. It has nothing to do with mentality."

Tuchel did acknowledge the positive impact of his substitutes, naming Reece James, Morgan Rogers, and Djed Spence as having performed excellently. However, he reiterated the need for improvement, stating, "We need to play better."

On the subject of Jude Bellingham, who scored England's equalizer and the decisive second goal, Tuchel called his performance "World class." He added, "We will get better, we need to get better. Now it’s a celebration, we have three days, we need everything, we need a better performance."

In contrast to Tuchel's critical assessment, Bellingham appeared more upbeat when interviewed on the pitch. When informed of Tuchel's discontent, Bellingham responded with a dismissive "Yeah well, whatever." He emphasized the difficulty of the match and praised his teammates' efforts, saying, "It's difficult out there. It's a tough shift. All the players have put in a very tough shift. So my thoughts and appreciation goes out to the players out there."

England secured their fourth-ever World Cup semifinal appearance after a match that required extra time. They will face either Switzerland or Argentina in the next round.
