Tottenham Hotspur has agreed to a transfer fee of £85 million for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, successfully outbidding Premier League rivals Manchester United. The transfer fee includes guaranteed payments, exceeding Manchester United's valuation for the Portugal international.
Manchester United had expressed strong interest in signing Fernandes, but the club indicated a commitment to acquiring players at their desired valuation and those with a clear desire to play for the team. United has maintained a patient approach to their transfer business, aiming to secure targets at the right price.
Tottenham has been active in the transfer market under manager Roberto de Zerbi. In addition to Fernandes, the club has reportedly agreed on terms with free agents Martin Dubravka, Marcos Senesi, and Andy Robertson. Jan Paul van Hecke was also acquired from Brighton for £52 million. Tottenham is also seeking to strengthen their attack with a forward and a winger, with Savinho of Manchester City reportedly among their targets.
The club has also been linked with Monaco's Folarin Balogun, though sources indicate they are exploring other options. Meanwhile, Tottenham has yet to receive a bid for midfielder Lucas Bergvall, despite interest from Nottingham Forest and Napoli, and is awaiting a new offer from Brighton for Luka Vuscovic.
Following the conclusion of the Fernandes pursuit, Manchester United is expected to turn its attention to other transfer targets. Bournemouth has so far resisted offers for Alex Scott, but other players remain on United's radar.
