Topps announced Monday that it will release a trading card featuring a now-iconic photograph of soccer superstar Lionel Messi holding Lamine Yamal as an infant. The image was taken during the World Cup.
Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the sport's history, was photographed holding Yamal, who is now a 19-year-old rising star, during the tournament's final match. In that game, Yamal and Spain defeated Messi and Argentina 1-0.
The match has been described as a potential changing of the guard in the sport, with the 39-year-old Messi possibly playing in his last World Cup. At the time of his initial meeting with Yamal, Messi was playing for Barcelona. He participated in a fundraising drive for UNICEF, during which he held Yamal.
Yamal has since followed a path similar to Messi's, emerging as Barcelona's standout player.
