Tomas Nido, a veteran catcher who spent most of his career with the New York Mets, has signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox organization. The deal, reported via his MLB player page, signals a continuation of Nido's playing career.

Nido, 32, last appeared on a major league roster during a brief stint with the Detroit Tigers in 2025. He played 10 games for the Tigers, batting .343 with two runs batted in and an OPS of .704 over 35 at-bats. His time with the Tigers concluded when the organization released him on July 21, 2026, after he spent the initial months of the season in their system.

Prior to his release from the Tigers, Nido played 43 games for Triple-A Toledo, hitting .236 with a .317 on-base percentage and a .368 slugging percentage. During that period, he recorded 34 hits in 144 at-bats, including 10 doubles and three home runs, while driving in 10 runs.

Nido is expected to report to the Red Sox's Triple-A affiliate, the Worcester Red Sox, where he will add organizational depth behind the plate.

Nido's professional career began when the Mets drafted him in the eighth round of the 2012 MLB Draft. He developed in their minor league system before making his MLB debut in September 2017. He remained with the Mets organization until his release in June 2024, having played parts of eight seasons with the major league club and establishing himself as a reliable backup catcher known for his defensive skills and occasional offensive contributions.

His most significant opportunity came in 2022, when he played in a career-high 98 games for the Mets. That season, he hit .239 with a .276 on-base percentage and .324 slugging percentage, tallying 68 hits, 15 doubles, three home runs, and 28 RBIs for a Mets team that won 101 games and reached the postseason.
