Tom Kim has reclaimed a place among golf's elite with his victory at the Scottish Open, marking a significant milestone in his career renaissance. The 24-year-old South Korean carded a final-round 64 to finish at 17-under par, securing a two-shot win over Australia's Min Woo Lee at the Renaissance Club.

This triumph at East Lothian's "golf coast" is particularly meaningful for Kim, who has a strong track record at the event, having finished third in 2022 and consistently placing in the top 20. His performance on Sunday showcased exceptional ball-striking, highlighted by a crucial birdie on the par-4 16th, which set the tone for his flawless final round.

Kim's journey to this point has been marked by a challenging few years after an explosive start to his PGA Tour career, where he secured three titles before the age of 21 and drew comparisons to Tiger Woods. As recently as six weeks ago, Kim was ranked 150th in the world. However, a third-place finish at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills last month preceded this significant victory, his first in three years.

Reflecting on his win, Kim expressed pride in his composure under pressure. "I've had a tough couple of years and I got to taste a lot of that humble pie and I got to really learn about myself," he stated. "I'm still trying to grow, still trying to learn and I've still got a long way to go."

The final round saw a lengthy day of play, with fog on Saturday disrupting the schedule and requiring the completion of the third round early Sunday morning. Robert MacIntyre of Scotland, who began the final round as a joint leader, finished in third place on 13-under par after a round of 69. Despite an encouraging start to his morning, MacIntyre's final round struggled, though he did manage an eagle on the 12th and two birdies in his closing holes.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy finished the tournament on 12-under par after a strong final-round 64. He rallied with several birdies early in his round and again on the 12th and 13th holes, but a stumble on the 16th, where he hit his approach into deep rough, resulted in a bogey and effectively ended his challenge.

Kim's performance at the Scottish Open positions him as a strong contender for The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale this week, where he aims to improve on his tie for second place in 2023.
