Tom Kim has ended a three-year wait for a title, clinching his first victory since 2023 at the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday. The 24-year-old South Korean golfer achieved this feat with a flawless final round of 64 at the Renaissance Club, finishing at 17-under par.
Kim's performance saw him finish two shots ahead of runner-up Min Woo Lee of Australia. Crowd favorite Bob MacIntyre of Scotland and England's Matt Fitzpatrick, who had shared the lead after the fog-disrupted third round, ended the tournament four shots behind Kim.
Emerging from a recent slump in form and confidence that had seen him drop in the world rankings, Kim's victory was marked by a bogey-free final round, a distinction he shared with no other player in the field. "I can't really wrap my mind over it," an emotional Kim said after his win. "It's really special and I'm just at a loss for words."
He reflected on the challenges of the past few years, stating, "Obviously I've had a tough couple years. I got to taste a lot of that humble pie and I got to really learn about myself and I'm still trying to grow, still trying to learn."
The triumph comes with a winner's prize of £1.2 million and secures Kim a spot in next year's Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
Notable performances also included Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, who, despite matching Kim's final-round 64, faced too large a deficit after a third-round 73.
Americans Michael Thorbjornsen and Johny Keefer, who tied for seventh and third place respectively, have earned berths in the upcoming Open Championship. Frenchman Victor Perez also secured a spot in the major championship.
