Defender Tayvon Gray has signed a contract extension with New York City FC, which will keep the Bronx native with the club through the 2028-29 Major League Soccer season. The deal, announced on Wednesday, also includes an option for the 2029-30 season.

Gray is one of five current players on the NYCFC roster who were with the team when it won the MLS Cup in 2021. He expressed his commitment to the club, stating, "I’m grateful and honored to continue my journey with New York City FC. This is my Club, and I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished together, but I’m hungry for more. I want to keep winning, continue helping this group, and be part of this next chapter as we look ahead to Etihad Park."

Sporting director Todd Dunivant had indicated that contract extension talks with Gray were ongoing earlier this month. Gray, who was in the final year of his contract this season, has played in 178 matches across all competitions since signing his first professional Homegrown contract with the club in 2019 at the age of 17. During his time with NYCFC, he has scored three goals and recorded 13 assists.

While Gray has previously expressed aspirations to play in Europe, he acknowledged that he and the club were discussing his next career step. For the immediate future, NYCFC is focused on improving its standing in the league table as the team currently holds a playoff spot. The club is set to play a significant match on Saturday against Toronto FC, a team also competing for a playoff position.
