Tanzid Hasan Tamim made history on day two of the first Test in Darwin, becoming the first Bangladesh cricketer to score a century in Australia. His maiden Test century in Australian conditions helped Bangladesh build a significant lead over the hosts.

The opening batsman reached 101 runs off 197 balls, contributing to Bangladesh's closing score of 351-6. This gave the visitors a lead of 153 runs after they had bowled Australia out for 198 on the first day.

Tamim, playing in only his second Test match, described the achievement as "very special." He expressed his enjoyment of the conditions, noting that the pitch was improving. He began the second day on 32, with Bangladesh at 96-1.

Earlier in the day, Tamim shared a 102-run partnership with Mominul Haque, who was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood for 49 before lunch. Following that, Tamim and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto added 93 runs, with Australia struggling in the heat.

Nathan Lyon eventually dismissed Tamim, catching him at long-off off his own bowling. Australia managed to take three quick wickets with the new ball after tea, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud secured an unbroken 43-run stand by stumps, maintaining Bangladesh's advantage.

This Test is the first in a two-match series. Australia has not lost a home Test to Bangladesh previously, with their only previous win against the Tigers coming in Mirpur in 2017.
