Sydney Swans player Tom Papley has allegedly returned a positive result in a roadside drug test, the club confirmed on Wednesday. Police pulled Papley over for a license check on Monday.

During the stop, Papley completed a random drug test which yielded a preliminary positive indication. A second sample has been taken for further analysis, with results expected in at least four weeks.

Papley was issued a court attendance notice for driving with a suspended license due to unpaid parking fines. He immediately informed the club of the incident, and the Sydney Swans subsequently notified the AFL.

The club stated it would not comment further until the police investigation is concluded. Papley has been with the Swans since being selected in the 2016 Rookie Draft and has played 216 games, scoring 337 goals.
