Sydney Swans player Chad Warner has been seen publicly for the first time since his suspension by the club and an ongoing police investigation.

Warner was photographed on Thursday morning having breakfast with his girlfriend, Alice Hughes, in Sydney. Hughes appeared somber during the outing, while Warner, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, kept his head down. Hughes, a nurse from Perth, has been with Warner for several years and moved to Sydney after he was drafted by the Swans. She has accompanied him to events like the Brownlow Medal ceremony.

Later the same day, Warner was seen with a male friend at a beach. In contrast to the earlier breakfast, Warner appeared more relaxed and cheerful during this outing, sharing laughs while they sat on a rock overlooking the view.

Warner, along with teammates Isaac Heeney, Nick Blakey, James Jordon, and Riley Bice, were suspended by the Sydney Swans for the remainder of the 2026 season. The club determined they breached behavioral standards following a post-match event in Melbourne. According to Swans chief executive Matthew Pavlich, the incident involved drinking, staying out late, and bringing women back to the team hotel.

Victoria Police are separately investigating allegations of sexual assault stemming from the same night. Reports also indicate allegations of illicit drug use within the hotel room, though the players have denied criminal wrongdoing and drug use. Three women have reportedly made statements to police regarding alleged misconduct.

Swans coach Dean Cox, football boss Leon Cameron, head of player wellbeing and development Brett Kirk, and communications chief Tom Chadwick have reportedly provided statements to police as part of the investigation. The players have not been charged, and the investigation is ongoing.

The club's suspension has resulted in significant consequences for the players, including being banned from the Brownlow Medal count and ending their AFL seasons. The incident has also prompted scrutiny of the club's culture.

The five suspended players issued a joint apology, stating, "We are deeply sorry to everyone involved. We know that our behaviour has fallen well short of the standards expected of us and the values of our club."

Despite the turmoil, the Sydney Swans secured a 53-point victory against North Melbourne on Sunday, with captain Callum Mills expressing gratitude for fan support and pride in the team's unity. Swans chairman Andrew Pridham has announced a comprehensive review of the club's culture. The AFL has stated it will await the completion of the police investigation before commencing its own inquiries.
