David Stearns, the Mets' president of baseball operations, stated on Friday that he has not contemplated resigning and retains the full support of owner Steve Cohen following the firing of manager Carlos Mendoza. Mendoza was dismissed after the Mets concluded a six-game losing streak, bringing their season record to 34-47. The team had reached the National League Championship Series in 2024 but experienced a significant decline in the latter half of the season.

Stearns addressed the situation, asserting his belief in the organizational foundation being built. "I believe that we are building the foundation of an organization that can deliver what we all want," Stearns said when asked about his position. "I don’t believe that our record on the field this year is indicative of some of the advancements that we have made in the organization, but clearly our record is nowhere good enough."

Andy Green, formerly a manager for the San Diego Padres, will step in as the interim manager for the remainder of the current season. However, Stearns indicated that Green is expected to transition back to an office role after the season concludes, and the Mets will undertake a comprehensive search for a new permanent manager.
