Former St. John's basketball player D.J. Kennedy expressed his admiration for the current team after participating in scrimmages with them, identifying forward Babacar Sane as a standout performer who exceeded expectations. The scrimmages, organized by coach Rick Pitino, brought together alumni to play against the new squad.
Kennedy stated he was aware of returning players Ian Jackson and Ruben Prey, as well as incoming transfer Tounde Yessoufou and British point guard Quinn Ellis. However, Sane was relatively unknown to him prior to the recent sessions.
After two days of practice and play in Queens, Kennedy noted that Sane, a forward from Senegal, made a significant impression. The former star alum's positive assessment comes as the team continues to build under Pitino's leadership.
