Jesús de Miguel, a forward for FC Tenerife, has died at the age of 30 following a collision during a match. The player suffered cardiac arrest after the incident and passed away the following morning.
De Miguel was injured during stoppage time of a match between FC Tenerife and FC Andorra on Monday. While sprinting to chase a long pass, he was struck by the Andorra goalkeeper, who had rushed out of his area. De Miguel fell to the ground and later suffered cardiac arrest.
Born in Madrid in 1996, De Miguel played for several clubs in Spain's lower divisions. He joined Castellón in 2023, scoring 16 goals and helping the team earn promotion to the second division. After a less productive stint in the second tier, he moved to Tenerife in the summer of 2025. Back in the third division, he scored 11 goals in his first season, contributing to another promotion for the club.
Spanish police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding De Miguel's death. The probe will examine whether the collision could be considered involuntary manslaughter. While criminal proceedings may be unlikely given the nature of the incident during play, authorities will review the referee's report and the findings of the sports disciplinary committee.
De Miguel is survived by his daughter, born last year, and her mother. Teammates and club officials are preparing for a "final farewell" in Navahermosa, in the Toledo province, at the request of his family. Tenerife president Felipe Miñambres stated that the club would always carry De Miguel in their hearts.
