CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel has died at the age of 30 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match against FC Andorra on Monday. The incident occurred following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono while the two players challenged for a loose ball.

Spanish police have initiated an investigation into the incident for potential involuntary manslaughter, with prosecutors involved in the inquiry. Judicial authorities in the Canary Islands stated that the investigation is a routine procedure for any non-natural death under Spanish law.

De Miguel was taken to a hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit before the club confirmed his death on Tuesday morning. CD Tenerife issued a statement expressing profound sadness and offering condolences to his family and the football community.

The collision took place in the seventh minute of stoppage time during the LaLiga 2 match. Medical staff attended to De Miguel on the pitch before he was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Owono received a red card for the play and has since deactivated his social media accounts due to online abuse.

In response to the tragedy, all matches scheduled for Tuesday were postponed by the Spanish Football Federation. Tributes have poured in from across the Spanish soccer sphere. LaLiga president Javier Tebas expressed deep sorrow, and FC Andorra also extended their condolences, with club president Gerard Piqué offering his sympathies.

De Miguel had a notable career, including helping Castellon secure promotion to the second division in the 2023-24 season, where he scored 16 goals. He joined Tenerife in the summer of 2025 and contributed to their promotion to LaLiga 2 last season.
