Serie A player Yael Trepy is in intensive care after nearly drowning in a swimming pool at a mansion in Sardinia, Italy. The 20-year-old French forward for Cagliari was airlifted to the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari following the incident, which occurred on a day off after the team's Italian Cup match on Friday.

According to Sardinian newspaper Unione Sarda, Trepy lost consciousness during the afternoon. The club confirmed his hospitalization and stated that he is undergoing necessary tests. Cagliari Calcio released a statement expressing concern and confirming constant contact with the healthcare facility and Trepy's family, requesting privacy.

Trepy joined Cagliari's youth academy in 2022 and has since progressed to the first team. He scored once in eight appearances during his debut Serie A campaign last season and was part of the team that won the Italian FA Youth Cup in 2025, scoring in the final. He played 54 minutes in Cagliari's recent 1-0 victory over Arezzo.

The Cagliari squad had been given two days off following the match and were scheduled to resume training on Monday, with their league season opener against Parma set for Saturday. Comparisons have been drawn to Thierry Henry in Trepy's youth career.
