Sean McCann, the younger brother of Madeleine McCann, is set to make his senior international debut as a swimmer for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 21-year-old distance freestyler expressed his excitement about competing in his home country.

"It's the pinnacle really of representing Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, especially at a home Games," McCann told Loughborough Sport. "I've got lots of family up in Glasgow so that makes it even more special. I was there in 2014, watching as a kid, so to make it now, 12 years later, is really a full circle moment."

Mccann, who was two years old when his sister Madeleine disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007, will compete alongside Olympic champion Duncan Scott. He is expected to participate in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle events.

McCann, originally from Leicester, qualifies to represent Scotland through his father, Gerry McCann. He is a student at Loughborough University, studying Chemical Engineering. His swimming career began at age eight, and he competed internationally at the youth level in 2023 at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

He has a history of dedication to the sport, waking at 4 a.m. multiple mornings each week to train since the age of 11. McCann has previously stated his goal to compete in the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, aiming to follow in the footsteps of athletes like Adam Peaty.

It remains unknown if his parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, will attend the Games to watch their son compete. The swimming events are scheduled to begin on Friday.
