The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has announced a "critically important" summit to discuss the future of the national game. The forum, scheduled for September 4 in St Andrews, will bring together all Scottish Professional Football League clubs.

An email obtained by BBC Scotland indicates the SFA aims to "discuss opportunities" related to homegrown talent development and to learn from clubs that have "optimised their elite talent development model." The meeting will also focus on the "current reality" facing Scottish football, with an emphasis on improving prospects for Scottish players and increasing revenue for clubs.

The summit follows Scotland's men's national team's failure to advance from the group stage at their first World Cup finals since 1998.

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and chief football officer Craig Mulholland will host the event. The discussions are expected to cover strategies for nurturing domestic talent and enhancing financial streams for the league's clubs.
