Scotland's head coach Sebastien Pocognoli views the upcoming matches as a "tidy-up" job, emphasizing continuity and refinement rather than a radical overhaul of the squad. Following a mixed maiden camp that concluded with a disheartening home loss to Slovenia, Pocognoli is focused on building on the positives from his initial period in charge.

Despite the recent defeat, where captain Andy Robertson noted the team was "outfought" and "not good enough," Pocognoli remains optimistic. "We want to continue what we produced in the first camp," he stated after naming his latest squad. "There's no reason to change everything because I was happy with the camp. The main word is continuity."

The squad sees the return of key players Scott McTominay, Che Adams, and Kieran Tierney, while James Penrice earns his first call-up. Pocognoli highlighted the experience these players bring as crucial for the team's development.

Scotland is currently third in their Nations League group and needs at least four points from their upcoming double-header against North Macedonia and Switzerland to have a chance at promotion play-offs. Simultaneously, the team is preparing for the "big job" of qualifying for Euro 2028, a tournament they are co-hosting. The qualifying draw is set for December 6, with group fixtures commencing next March.

Pocognoli also addressed the inclusion of Penrice, calling it a "logical choice" due to his quality and versatility, especially on the left side where the team has some absences. "He can be very useful for the system we want to play, and I think he deserves it," Pocognoli said.

However, Lennon Miller, who impressed in his only previous start for Scotland, has been dropped again. Pocognoli described this as "not a big topic," explaining that Miller is a victim of competition in a strong area of the team and that the coach wants to see him play in a more advanced midfield role. An offer has been extended for Miller to play for the Under-21s in his preferred position.

Pocognoli aims to use the remaining time with his players to thoroughly understand the squad's dynamics, body language, and attitude in various situations, gathering essential information to begin the Euro 2028 qualification campaign effectively.
