The New Orleans Saints have placed wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk on the reserve/retired list, the team announced Sunday. Polk, 24, is stepping away from the NFL after just two professional seasons.

Polk had been absent from the team for personal reasons in the days leading up to the announcement, according to coach Kellen Moore. Shortly thereafter, Polk reportedly cleared his social media accounts and ceased public communication.

Polk's NFL career did not gain the expected traction after being selected by the Patriots in the second round of the draft. He recorded 12 receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season with New England. A shoulder injury sidelined him for the entire 2025 season, and he was subsequently traded to the Saints while on the injured reserve.

After nearly a year of rehabilitation, Polk retired without playing a regular-season game for New Orleans. He has not publicly disclosed the reasons for his decision.

The Saints will retain Polk's rights should he ever decide to pursue a return to the league.
