Ryan Fox of New Zealand clinched his maiden major title at the British Open on Sunday, sinking a crucial birdie putt on the 18th hole to finish at 10-under par. The victory came down to the final shot, narrowly edging out American Cameron Young, who had posted a strong 9-under total.
Young had set the clubhouse target earlier in the day, carding a final-round 6-under 64. However, Fox's closing birdie ensured he held off the challenge. Fox's performance marked a career-best major finish, as he had not previously recorded a top-10 in any of the four majors.
Sam Burns, who started the final round with a share of the lead at 10-under, struggled to a 2-over 72, dropping him to third place at 8-under. Scottie Scheffler finished the tournament tied for fourth at 7-under par.
Fox's final round 2-under 68 secured the Claret Jug and his first major championship.
