Russell Wilson, a 10-time NFL Pro Bowler, has interviewed for the North Carolina State football head coach opening, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. This development introduces another prominent candidate into the Wolfpack's coaching search.

Earlier reports from On3 indicated that Philip Rivers, a former NC State star, was the focus for the position following the dismissal of head coach Dave Doeren. Doeren was fired after 14 seasons with the team, which had a 3-4 record and a 1-3 standing in ACC play before a recent win under interim coach Todd Goebbel.

Rivers, who played four seasons at NC State and whose son, Gunner, a four-star quarterback, has committed to the university for 2027, stated he was focused on finishing his current high school coaching season at St. Michael Catholic in Fairhope, Alabama. He acknowledged the "chatter" surrounding the NC State opening but deferred further comment.

Wilson played three seasons at NC State before transferring to Wisconsin for his senior year. He joined CBS' "NFL Today" pregame show this year after starting three games for the New York Giants last season and previously considering an offer from another team. Wilson has no prior coaching experience, but his 13-year NFL career, including a Super Bowl championship, could make him an appealing candidate for the program.
