Cristiano Ronaldo and his longtime girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, are reportedly planning their wedding in Madeira, Portugal, the soccer star's birthplace. Reports indicate the ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, with the cathedral in Funchal, the island's capital, booked for the event.

The Savoy Palace hotel, a five-star establishment near the cathedral, has also been reserved, suggesting it will host wedding festivities.

This reported church wedding stands in contrast to the ceremony held earlier this summer by pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce, who were married at Madison Square Garden in July. Ronaldo, who was raised in a Catholic family, and Rodriguez appear to be prioritizing their faith in their choice of venue.

It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo and Rodriguez will implement measures such as non-disclosure agreements or prohibitions on photography during their wedding, mirroring practices reportedly used by Swift and Kelce. Ronaldo's extensive fanbase is reportedly hopeful that such restrictions will not be in place for his celebration.

Ronaldo's World Cup run concluded in July when Portugal lost to eventual champions Spain in the Round of 16.
