The New York Red Bulls are in pursuit of Brian Gutierrez, a 23-year-old attacking midfielder from Liga MX side Chivas de Guadalajara. Gutierrez was part of Mexico's World Cup roster this past summer, making four appearances during the tournament. He joined Chivas in December after a stint with the Chicago Fire, where he played in 24 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

The Red Bulls' head of sport, Julian de Guzman, outlined the club's transfer strategy as one of intelligent acquisitions, emphasizing players who fit a style of intense, high-energy football. "We want to play a certain style of football and it requires a lot of running," de Guzman stated in a recent conversation. "It requires being intense. It requires the repeat over and over and over again. And scientifically, you want to get a player of that ability to compete at that level every day."

This potential move for Gutierrez would not be the first business between the Red Bulls and Chivas; the New York club previously acquired winger Cade Cowell from Chivas and also added Jorge Ruvalcaba. De Guzman noted that such signings are about bringing in players of "stature" and highlighted the importance of how new players integrate with the existing team. "How are they as a human being? And that’s the one thing I could say is such a big factor when you’re identifying these players that come in," he said. "Who are the guys that are coming around this nucleus of talented players we have locally to elevate the team based on their qualities?"

Gutierrez could provide an offensive boost for the Red Bulls, a team that has increasingly relied on the performance of 18-year-old star Julian Hall. Hall has also attracted significant attention, with European clubs reportedly monitoring his development. Clubs such as Marseille, Newcastle United, and Atletico Madrid have inquired about his availability, though a summer transfer is considered unlikely. Red Bull Leipzig and Hull City have also expressed interest in the young player.
