Real Madrid player Raul Asencio has been banned from driving for eight months and fined £12,350 after being convicted of drink-driving. The conviction emerged Wednesday and was confirmed by court sources in Gran Canaria.
Asencio, 23, was stopped at a police checkpoint around 6:30 a.m. on August 16 in San Bartolome de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, while driving a Porsche Macan GTS. He pleaded guilty to drink-driving in a speedy trial three days later. His alcohol reading was 0.90 milligrams per liter, significantly exceeding Spain's legal limit of 0.25 milligrams per liter of exhaled breath, meaning he was nearly four times over the limit.
The driving conviction is the latest legal issue for the defender, who is currently sidelined with an injury. Asencio is scheduled to go to trial on Thursday for allegations of sharing an explicit video involving a minor. He is accused of both sharing the tape and distributing the intimate footage without consent.
While public prosecutors are seeking a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence if convicted, they have indicated they will withdraw charges if the alleged victims ratify apologies they reportedly offered during the court investigation. Both alleged victims have withdrawn their complaints against Asencio.
Also facing trial in connection with the alleged video incident are Asencio's former Real Madrid teammates Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez, and Andres Garcia. They are accused of recording and distributing sexual videos involving a minor and another woman. Asencio is not accused of direct involvement in the alleged recording or distribution incident itself. Ruiz, Rodriguez, and Garcia were arrested in September 2023, with the alleged incident occurring at a beach club in Gran Canaria on June 15, 2023, involving consensual sexual relations with two females, who later alleged their intimate moments were filmed without consent.
Asencio was initially interviewed by police in connection with the case before becoming part of the wider investigation. He released a statement in May 2025 vehemently denying the allegations made against him.
