The Los Angeles Rams have restructured the contract of veteran safety Quentin Lake, a move that will save the team $857,000 against the salary cap. This adjustment comes after defensive tackle Aaron Donald rejoined the team on an altered contract following his brief retirement.
Lake will now earn $3.42 million instead of his previously scheduled $4.285 million. The remaining $857,000 of his contract has been shifted into a signing bonus. This financial maneuver helps the Rams get approximately $2.8 million under the salary cap.
Donald's own contract was adjusted to pay him $20 million, down from an anticipated $30 million, after he announced his return to the team. The team may explore further financial adjustments, potentially by restructuring quarterback Matthew Stafford's contract, which was extended during the offseason to a one-year, $55 million deal.
Lake, 27, has emerged as a key player for the Rams' defense since being a sixth-round draft pick out of UCLA. He is set to serve as a team captain for the third consecutive season. In January, Lake signed a three-year extension worth $42 million, with $25.7 million guaranteed.
Lake's base salary for the upcoming season will be $1.2 million, in addition to a $5.5 million roster bonus. He played in 10 games last season before a dislocated elbow sidelined him for the end of the year. In 2024, Lake recorded 111 tackles, including 73 solo tackles, during a breakout season.
