The Las Vegas Raiders disciplined veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins and star pass rusher Maxx Crosby by holding them out of full-squad drills on Saturday following a heated exchange during the previous day's training camp practice. The incident occurred when Crosby hit Cousins' arm twice during team practice. Cousins responded by grabbing Crosby's jersey and confronting him face-to-face, leading to a verbal exchange before the two were separated by teammates.
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak confirmed the disciplinary action, stating that both players violated the team's practice expectations. "We have very clear expectations on how we want to practice and how we want to go about our business, and we violated that yesterday, so [we] held those guys out," Kubiak said. "That's all I'm going to say about it. We addressed it with the team, and we're moving on."
While sidelined from full drills, both Crosby and Cousins participated in stretching and individual drills on Saturday. Rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza took first-team reps in Cousins' absence. Kubiak indicated that both players are expected to rejoin full-team practice on Monday.
Kubiak had previously described the fight as a "byproduct of camp" but urged the veteran players to manage their emotions more effectively. The Raiders, who have NFL legend Tom Brady as a part-owner, also saw a separate scuffle between defensive tackle Jonah Laulu and guard Caleb Rogers on Friday. Unlike Crosby and Cousins, Laulu and Rogers were permitted to participate in all drills on Saturday.
