Quentin Grimes is set to join the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year contract worth $60 million, a move he marked by sharing a personal throwback photo.

Shortly after the agreement, Grimes posted an image of himself as a child wearing Lakers attire, sitting beside his father, Marshall. The elder Grimes is seen in a white "Lakers Basketball" shirt, framing the moment as a full-circle experience.

Grimes, 26, brings a varied NBA history to Los Angeles, having previously played for the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, and Philadelphia 76ers. He also had a brief stint with Luka Dončić in Dallas during the 2024-25 season.

The Lakers are acquiring Grimes for his ability as a two-way guard, capable of defending on the perimeter and providing floor spacing. Last season with Philadelphia, he averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. Despite a dip in his three-point shooting last year, Grimes has historically been a consistent catch-and-shoot option.

His father played a significant role in shaping his game from an early age. Marshall Grimes, a former college point guard, reportedly exposed his son to older and stronger competition. Grimes began playing against more experienced players in local gyms when he was young.

One anecdote from Grimes' youth recounts his father recalling him making a game-winning shot from 25 feet as an eighth grader. When asked why he took the shot, his son's response was simply, "Because I was hot."

This early foundation guided Grimes through a career marked by transitions. He was a highly-touted recruit, started his college career at Kansas, transferred to Houston where he helped lead the Cougars to the Final Four, and was ultimately selected 25th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Beyond basketball, Grimes has a notable familial connection to professional sports as the half-brother of Dallas Stars defenseman Tyler Myers, making them the first siblings to compete in the NBA and NHL.

The signing aims to bolster the Lakers' shooting, defense, and overall depth, particularly with Dončić on the roster. For Grimes, the move represents a return to the team he admired as a child.
