Premier League footballers are increasingly forced to reduce the asking prices of their luxury homes, with many accepting substantial financial losses to secure sales. This trend is particularly evident in Cheshire's affluent 'Golden Triangle' and surrounding areas, a postcode historically favored by top-tier players.

Players, both current and former, are slashing hundreds of thousands, and in some cases millions, of pounds off their properties. Manchester City and England forward Phil Foden recently reduced the price of his Prestbury home by £825,000, from £3.25 million to £2.4 million. This sale would mean Foden, who lives with his partner Rebecca Cooke and their three children, loses £450,000 on his initial investment.

Other notable figures have also seen significant price reductions. Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany reduced his Hale Barns home by £300,000. Ex-Everton player Tim Cahill had to cut his asking price by £1.5 million for his mansion in Hale, ultimately selling it for £5 million after initially seeking £6.5 million. Paul Pogba has also lowered the price of his Hale Barns property by £450,000, with a new valuation of £3.45 million.

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, now playing for Turkish club Fenerbahce, has reduced the price of his Wilmslow house by £200,000 to £3.8 million. Ex-Wales captain Ashley Williams has cut £100,000 from his Altrincham home, now listed at £3,650,000. Everton defender Michael Keane has also reduced his Knutsford home's price by £200,000.

In Formby, former Liverpool player Naby Keita has slashed £200,000 off the price of his five-bedroom home, now valued at £2.8 million. Former City player Joleon Lescott, now a DJ, was compelled to chop £250,000 off his Alderley Edge home's price, having initially listed it for £4.5 million.

The 'Golden Triangle,' encompassing Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, and Prestbury, has long been a hub for high-value property transactions fueled by Premier League footballers. This influx of wealthy residents dates back to the 1990s, with celebrity couples like David and Victoria Beckham being early high-profile inhabitants. However, the area has also attracted criminal attention, with several high-profile burglaries targeting footballers' homes. In December 2023, Jack Grealish's home was targeted, with jewelry and watches worth £1 million stolen while he was playing a match. In January, intruders broke into the house of Manchester City's Rúben Dias, who was away on work, making off with thousands of pounds worth of designer clothing, jewelry, and electronics. Other players like Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez have also experienced similar security breaches.
