Los Angeles Pierce College has canceled its upcoming football season, scheduled to begin in weeks, citing an insufficient number of players to safely compete. The decision to place the football program on hiatus for the 2026 season was announced Tuesday by school officials.
Officials stated that the roster size for the Brahmas never reached the minimum needed for safe participation throughout the season. The college delayed a final determination until late summer in an effort to monitor the roster.
Pierce College officials identified supporting the affected student-athletes as an immediate priority. The cancellation leaves players searching for new programs if they wish to continue playing competitively this fall. The college is collaborating with the Southern California Football Association and other institutions to assist students seeking opportunities with minimal disruption to their academic progress.
"We recognize that this news is disappointing for our student-athletes, alumni, supporters and the broader Pierce community," the college said in a statement. "Pierce Football has a proud history, and we are grateful to everyone who has contributed to that tradition."
The Brahmas are part of the Southern California Football Association’s Pacific Conference, competing against schools such as Victor Valley College, Santa Monica College, and Grossmont College. They are not part of the NCAA.
Pierce College, a public community college in the San Fernando Valley, is evaluating the future of its football program during its hiatus. The college reaffirmed its commitment to the academic success, safety, and well-being of its student-athletes.
