The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired three-time Major League Baseball batting champion Luis Arraez in a significant trade, hours before the league's trade deadline.

Arraez, a Venezuelan star, is set to join his fifth team in five years. In the deal, the Phillies are also receiving right-handed reliever Caleb Kilian from the San Francisco Giants. In exchange, Philadelphia is sending top minor league pitching prospect Ramon Marquez and reliever Marty Glair to San Francisco, according to ESPN.

The trade signals the start of what is anticipated to be a busy trade deadline day, with the deadline set for 6 p.m. EST.

In a separate transaction earlier on Monday, the Phillies acquired left-handed reliever Brooks Raley from the New York Mets. The Mets received Luke Gabrysh and John Spikerman in that deal.

Arraez, who is slated to become a free agent at the end of the season, is currently in the midst of a strong year, hitting .324, which leads the National League and ranks second in MLB.

He was the batting champion in 2022 with the Minnesota Twins, and again in 2023 and 2024 with the Miami Marlins. Arraez, a four-time All-Star, has primarily played second base for the Giants this season after previously playing first base for the San Diego Padres in 2024 and 2025. Reports indicate Philadelphia intends to utilize Arraez at his preferred second base position, which would likely shift Bryson Stott to third base, Alec Bohm to first base, and Bryce Harper to the outfield.

While Arraez is not known for his power, hitting only four home runs this season, he is recognized for his ability to consistently put the ball in play.

Elsewhere on trade deadline day, the Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-handed pitcher Jose Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels received top shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti, and right-hander Angel Rivero in that deal.
