NFL star Patrick Mahomes drew attention during the World Cup quarter-final match between Argentina and Switzerland, not for his engagement with the game, but for an apparent mid-game food order and expression of disinterest. The quarterback attended the match at Arrowhead Stadium, the home of his team the Kansas City Chiefs, with his wife Brittany.
According to lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling, Mahomes was captured on television seemingly expressing frustration with the lack of goals. "What are they doing? The f***," Mahomes appeared to say to his wife, adding, "That was a goal right there. This is not happening."
Mahomes's attention then reportedly shifted away from the pitch as he appeared to issue a demand to someone off-camera. "Get me two burgers," he was seen to mouth, before letting out a yawn and remarking, "I mean, look at me yawning and sitting here."
Miami.
The quarterback was seen wearing a limited-edition adidas Argentina 'Thrasher' jersey, suggesting support for the team. He witnessed Argentina's opening goal, scored by Alexis Mac Allister from a corner delivered by Lionel Messi, shortly before cameras caught him.
Switzerland managed to equalize in the second half, but after a red card for their player Breel Embolo, they ultimately lost 3-1 in extra time, with goals from Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez sealing the win for Argentina.
The Mahomeses' World Cup outing occurred the day after they attended the wedding of former Chiefs teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster. They were accompanied by Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift at that ceremony.
Mahomes and Brittany had also attended Kelce and Swift's wedding celebration on July 3, which took place at Madison Square Garden.
