Lando Norris secured victory in a dramatic Sao Paulo Grand Prix, mastering treacherous wet conditions that led to multiple driver errors, including a race-ending spin for championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Max Verstappen completed a remarkable charge from 21st on the grid to finish second, with Red Bull teammate Isack Hadjar securing third.
Antonelli, who had started from pole position after a damp qualifying session, initially jumped ahead of Norris but struggled significantly after pitting for dry tires. He ultimately finished the race in fifth place.
George Russell's podium aspirations were dashed by a spin in the pit lane exit, though he recovered to finish fourth. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, starting from the back of the grid after Saturday's engine issues, could only manage ninth place.
Mercedes secured the constructors' title following Antonelli's earlier drivers' crown.
Norris had initially claimed pole position in soaking conditions on Saturday, ahead of Russell. However, Russell incurred a five-place grid penalty for an engine change. Antonelli's race began precariously, with a moment on the run to the grid where he slid across the grass but managed to avoid the barriers.
Antonelli took the lead from Norris at the start, but Norris was soon passed by Liam Lawson. Hamilton made significant progress in the opening lap, moving up from 20th to ninth. Verstappen, starting 21st, began his steady ascent through the field with a series of overtakes.
Despite challenging conditions and strategic calls, including Hamilton's desire for dry tires, the race was defined by Antonelli's spin from the lead on lap 20. This allowed Norris to take command of the race. Antonelli spun again later in the race as Verstappen closed in. The leaders pitted again as the rain returned, with Russell pitting early and Hamilton spinning on the main straight while entering the pits.
Norris maintained his lead through the closing stages to claim his third Grand Prix win of the season, finishing 14.6 seconds ahead of Verstappen. Antonelli faced an investigation for an unsafe pit release during the race.
