Neymar has announced his retirement from international football after Brazil was eliminated from the World Cup.

The Brazilian winger made the decision following his team's 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16, which ended Brazil's World Cup aspirations.

Carlo Ancelotti had recalled Neymar to the Brazil squad for the tournament after a three-year absence, giving the player an opportunity to win the World Cup. Norway secured their victory with two goals from Erling Haaland.

Neymar, who has been capped 129 times for Brazil, appeared in two matches during the 2026 World Cup. He scored a penalty in the final minutes of his last international game, a consolation goal in the match against Norway. He was seen in tears at full-time following the match.
