A potential catch of the year candidate unfolded in a Double-A Southern League game Friday night when Brewers prospect Mark Coley II executed a remarkable home run robbery. Coley, playing center field for Double-A Biloxi, denied Braves outfielder Eric Hartman, the 73rd-ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline, a home run with a dramatic, two-part play at the wall.
Hartman, in his fourth Double-A game after hitting 24 home runs at High-A, launched a full-count pitch deep to right-center field at Synovus Park in Columbus, Georgia. Coley tracked the ball to the outfield wall, leaping at the fence to make contact with the soaring fly ball. Although he initially could not secure the ball, knocking it back toward the warning track, Coley managed to catch it with his glove while falling to the ground. This second effort resulted in an out, preserving a tie game and saving his pitcher, Manuel Rodriguez, from allowing back-to-back-to-back home runs.
The play drew comparisons to similar improbable catches made by other outfielders. In September 2026, Nationals center fielder Jacob Young made a notable circus catch at the wall, using his foot to corral a rebound. Earlier, in 2009, Dewayne Wise of the White Sox made a bare-handed, second-effort catch to preserve Mark Buehrle's perfect game, a play Coley's catch closely resembled.
Hartman did manage to get a hit against Coley later in the game, doubling to center field on a ball Coley could not reach. Despite going 0-for-3 at the plate in Biloxi's 4-2 loss, Coley's defensive gem captured significant attention.
