Michigan and UConn are set to meet again on the court Friday in Boston's TD Garden for the Hall of Fame Series, seven months after the Wolverines defeated the Huskies for the national championship. UConn, ranked No. 4, enters the matchup as a 5.5-point favorite over No. 16 Michigan.
Much has changed for the Wolverines since their championship season. Former head coach Dusty May and player Morez Johnson have moved on to the Dallas Mavericks, while Yaxel Lendeborg is making headlines with the Warriors and Aday Mara has joined the Thunder. However, Elliot Cadeau, who was named Most Outstanding Player of the national title game, has returned to Michigan for his senior season.
Cadeau, who had previously played for North Carolina, was noted for his jump-shooting struggles and lack of scoring aggression. Last season, he improved his 3-point percentage to 37.6% from 33.7%, and his performance in the championship game showcased a more complete game. He demonstrated decisiveness in driving to the basket, finishing through contact, and drawing fouls.
While Cadeau's shot was off in Michigan's season opener against Oakland, a game the Wolverines won by 16 points, he has shown intent to be a more aggressive scorer. This was evident in his three exhibition games. The New York Post betting preview suggests an over on Cadeau's combined points and assists prop of 18, anticipating his ability to get to the free-throw line and make occasional open 3-pointers, alongside his expected strong passing game.
