University of Miami star running back Jordan Lyle was arrested Thursday on charges of fleeing and eluding at a high speed and reckless driving, according to the Broward State Attorney's Office. The Sunrise Police Department had issued a warrant for his arrest.

Lyle, a junior, was booked and processed before being released on a $55,000 bond. The fleeing and eluding charge is a felony, while reckless driving is a misdemeanor. It remains unclear how these charges will impact his role as the expected backup running back for Miami behind Mark Fletcher.

A spokesperson for the University of Miami stated, "We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle. As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time."

Lyle is aiming for a bounce-back season after an injury-plagued 2025 campaign. In his freshman year in 2024, he recorded 400 yards and four touchdowns on 54 carries. Last season, however, he played in only six games due to an injury sustained in the opening week against Notre Dame, finishing with 108 yards and one touchdown on 35 carries.

The Miami Hurricanes are looking to replicate their successful 2025 season, which saw them reach the national championship game before losing to Indiana. The team is set to begin its season on the road against Stanford on September 4, just over three weeks from Lyle's arrest.
