Carson Wiggins, the New York Mets' highest draft selection at 27th overall, has signed with the team, agreeing to a $3,466,500 signing bonus. The agreement, reached Wednesday in Queens, represents the full slot value for his draft position.
Wiggins, a 21-year-old pitcher from Arkansas, was described by Mets officials as a potential "front-line" starter, capable of throwing a fastball that reaches 102 mph. Despite his high potential, his college career was limited. He pitched only 14 innings for the Razorbacks, with a 3.21 ERA, after undergoing elbow surgery last year. This surgery caused him to miss his entire sophomore season.
Following his selection by the Mets, Wiggins has stated that his rehabilitation is complete and he is ready to resume pitching.
