New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge was removed from Friday night's game with left wrist soreness after colliding with the outfield wall while making a catch. The incident occurred in the bottom of the third inning when Benge tracked down a long fly ball, making a diving grab before hitting the wall.
Benge immediately showed discomfort, removing his glove from his left hand before getting back on his feet. Cristian Pache, who was recently recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, entered the game as a defensive replacement in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Before his exit, Benge had been performing well at the plate. He was 2-for-2 in the game, upping his batting average to .270, and had scored a run. Benge had been on a strong offensive streak, recording two home runs and a triple during a recent series in Cleveland. He is in his rookie season with the Mets.
