The New York Mets lost 6-2 to the Boston Red Sox on Friday, continuing a pattern of inconsistent play despite Boston facing significant travel challenges. The Red Sox arrived in Queens after a nearly day-long delay due to plane mechanical issues, but the Mets were unable to capitalize.

The loss came shortly after the Mets secured their first series win in nearly a month, highlighting their difficulty in sustaining momentum. Boston, meanwhile, extended its winning streak to seven games, bolstering its position in the American League wild-card race.

The game's start was delayed by 36 minutes. Boston took an early lead in the first inning when Anthony Seigler reached on an error by Mets left fielder Juan Soto. Seigler advanced on a bunt and a walk before Masataka Yoshida hit a two-run double, putting the Red Sox up 2-0.

Mets pitcher Nolan McLean allowed two unearned runs over six innings, but the offense struggled to support him. In the third inning, Brett Baty singled, Zack Short walked, and Ewing reached on a fielder's choice. Soto then hit a sacrifice fly to score a run, making it 2-1. An error on Jaren Duran's throw allowed Ewing to reach third, but Francisco Lindor flied out to end the threat.

Mets right fielder Carson Benge's throw from right field in the fourth inning successfully prevented a runner from scoring, keeping the deficit at one run. However, the Red Sox extended their lead in the seventh when reliever A.J. Minter gave up a bunt single and a two-run home run to Seigler, pushing Boston's advantage to 4-1.

The Mets had a prime opportunity to narrow the gap in the eighth inning with runners on first and third and no outs, but Lindor, Benge, and Jorge Polanco failed to drive in a run. They finished the game 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Wilyer Abreu added a two-run home run in the ninth for the Red Sox, sealing the 6-2 victory. Mets pitcher Cionel Pérez gave up the late home run.

Mets left fielder Juan Soto dropped a fly ball in the first inning that led to an early Red Sox baserunner. New York Mets left fielder Juan Soto (22) drops a fly ball, allowing Boston Red Sox second baseman Anthony Seigler (48) to reach second during the first inning.
