Oli McBurnie, the forward for Hull City, has been selected for the Scotland squad for the first time in five years. This marks the initial selection by new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli, who has also named seven previously uncapped players.
Among the new faces are defenders Luis Binks and Colby Donovan, and midfielders Jon McCracken and Josh McPake, alongside Stephen Welsh. As anticipated, Stoke City defender Luke Graham and Sevilla striker Robbie Ure have received their first senior call-ups. Scott Bain, Josh Doig, Lennon Miller, and James Wilson have been recalled to the squad.
McBurnie, 30, last played for Scotland in 2021, earning 16 caps in total since his debut in 2018. While he has not yet scored for the national team, he converted a penalty in the shootout that secured Scotland's qualification for the delayed Euro 2020 finals.
Brondby's Binks, aged 25, has previously represented England and Scotland at youth levels. Fellow defender Donovan, 20, has gained prominence this season by filling in for the injured Canadian right-back Alistair Johnston at Celtic. Donovan, like McBurnie, has been capped at under-19 and under-21 levels.
Graham was part of Scotland's pre-World Cup training camp in May following a strong campaign with Dundee, where he received the club's players' player and young player of the year awards. The 22-year-old was an unused substitute in Scotland's final pre-World Cup friendly against Curacao, which was Steve Clarke's last match as head coach at Hampden Park. Graham, who has three caps at under-21 level, has been a consistent starter for Championship side Stoke City, who are currently unbeaten in their last four games.
Ure, a former Rangers academy product, attracted significant European interest after scoring 20 goals and providing three assists in 20 matches for Sirius, helping them to the top of the Swedish league. This form led to a summer transfer to La Liga club Sevilla for a reported £5.5 million.
