Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby stated he has a grievance with former NFL MVP Cam Newton, citing critical online commentary that contrasted with Newton's personal interactions.
During an appearance on the podcast "Deflected," Crosby expressed that Newton's public remarks had "pissed me off," despite his general liking for Newton. Crosby indicated that Newton's online criticism was followed by a direct message a few weeks later, which he did not respond to. "I can't even fake be cool with you right now," Crosby said. "There's a respect level. I played against him. But we got to talk when I see him."
Crosby did not specify the exact comments that led to his frustration. However, Newton had publicly questioned Crosby's loyalty to the Raiders in October 2025 on ESPN's "First Take." Newton suggested that Crosby's desire to win might be hindered by remaining with the Raiders, implying he had an opportunity to join a playoff contender.
Another point of contention may have been Newton's response to a proposed trade of Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens. The trade fell through after Crosby's physical examination, which revealed issues while he was recovering from meniscus surgery. Newton stated that all trades are contingent on passing a physical and that Crosby's experience was similar to that of average NFL players. He also suggested that prominent players can become accustomed to preferential treatment.
While the specific source of Crosby's current "beef" with Newton remains unnamed, their past on-field encounters add a layer to the situation. Crosby sacked Newton twice in their single NFL game in 2020, though Newton's New England Patriots won that matchup. Crosby still referred to Newton as "my guy," but indicated that their next conversation is likely to be less amicable.
