Matheus Cunha will not face additional sanctions from UEFA after re-entering the pitch following his red card during Manchester United's Champions League victory against Roma. The Brazilian forward starred in the 3-2 comeback win at Old Trafford, scoring two goals and winning a penalty converted by Bruno Fernandes.

Cunha was sent off in injury time after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession. The first was for removing his shirt after scoring the winning goal, and the second was for a subsequent foul. Despite being ordered by manager Michael Carrick and staff not to celebrate with his teammates on the field due to potential UEFA rule violations and the risk of further punishment, Cunha briefly remained on the pitch before being escorted off.

A UEFA spokesperson confirmed that the official match reports did not contain any mention of the incident, meaning Cunha's automatic one-match ban for the two yellow cards will stand. He will miss the upcoming Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon. This ruling prevents him from incurring a more severe penalty.

This situation echoes a similar incident in March 2025 when Cunha, then playing for Wolves, received an additional one-match ban and a £50,000 fine from the FA for improper conduct after his reaction to a red card in an FA Cup match against Bournemouth.
