Oklahoma City Comets outfielder Alek Thomas was involved in an unusual collision with a mascot riding an electric scooter during a promotional event at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.
The incident occurred on "Christmas in July" night, where the Sacramento River Cats' mascot, Dinger, was dressed as Santa Claus and riding a scooter around the warning track. As Dinger passed the Comets' dugout, Thomas entered the field of play and was hit by the scooter.
The collision, captured on camera, appeared to be substantial. Despite the impact, Thomas remained in the game and was in the lineup a few days later, according to reports. Thomas was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Dodgers organization earlier this season.
This is not the first unusual incident involving a Dodgers minor league player in recent months. In May, Dodgers prospect Kendall George of the Double-A Tulsa Drillers had to evade a bat dog, sustaining an injury in the process.
