Manchester United is nearing an agreement for the transfer of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, with a deal valued at approximately £65 million.
Negotiations for the 22-year-old Cameroonian international have reportedly resumed in recent weeks. This comes after initial concerns over an ankle ligament injury were allayed, with Baleba now expected to be fit by late September.
Baleba has been a target for Manchester United for the past year, having initially impressed with his energetic performances for Brighton. His valuation was previously around £75 million. Despite a dip in form during the latter half of the previous season, United managers see significant potential in the young player.
Newcastle United has also expressed interest in Baleba in recent weeks.
Manchester United aimed to overhaul their midfield during the summer transfer window, particularly following the departure of Casemiro to Major League Soccer. The club intended to sign three midfielders before the window's closure. To date, they have already acquired Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35 million and Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50 million.
