Manchester City has reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign midfielder Enzo Fernández, according to The Athletic. Fernández has reportedly been granted permission by Chelsea to undergo a medical examination.
The transfer fee for the 25-year-old Argentinian international is reported to be €125 million (approximately $169 million), which matches the Premier League transfer record previously set by Alexander Isak.
Fernández originally joined Chelsea in January 2023 from Benfica for €106.8 million. He recently began his fifth season with the club. In the 2025-26 season, he recorded a career-high 10 goals and four assists. Prior to his time at Chelsea, Fernández played one season with Benfica and three seasons with River Plate in Argentina.
Fernández was part of the Argentina squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and recently competed in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring two goals in seven matches. His national team teammate, Lionel Messi, announced his retirement from international play on Monday.
Both Manchester City and Chelsea have started the 2026-27 Premier League season with a 2-0-0 record. The two clubs are scheduled to play each other on December 12 at Manchester City and on April 24 at Chelsea.
