Manchester City is nearing the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the successor to manager Pep Guardiola. Executives at City have engaged in extended discussions with their Chelsea counterparts for several weeks regarding the terms of an agreement to bring the Italian to the Etihad Stadium.

A compensation package valued at over £10 million is anticipated for Maresca, who resigned from his position at Chelsea earlier this year. Maresca has been in communication with City's director of football and is reportedly well-informed about the club's summer transfer plans.

Among the club's primary targets is midfielder Elliot Anderson, with optimism that the England international could complete a move for a British record fee exceeding £120 million. City is also looking to strengthen at right back and winger, and has expressed admiration for Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali.

Maresca's impending appointment comes with Guardiola's endorsement. The two managers have a close relationship, with Maresca having served as Guardiola's assistant during City's Treble-winning season in 2023. Many players from the current squad are participating in the World Cup in North America and are not expected to join the pre-season tour in Asia.

Representatives for both Manchester City and Chelsea declined to comment on the matter.
